Tom holds a masters degree in Mathematics Teaching from Minnesota State University - Mankato and a B.T. from Winona State University. Tom has taught mathematics at Mankato West High School for the past nine years where he currently is the Head Boys Basketball Coach. Tom was selected as the 2004 Section 2AAA Basketball Coach of the Year. His Mankato West team won the 2004 State AAA Championship. He received the honor of 2005 Big 9 Coach of the Year. Tom is the offensive coordinator for football where they were state champions in 1999 and 2002.
Jon received his BS (Teaching) Degree from Winona State University and a Master's Degree in Exercise and Sport Science (Sport Administration) from the University of Wisconsin-La Crosse. He has taught Social Studies in the Kasson-Mantorville School District for nine years. Prior to that, he taught for two years in the Winona Public Schools. Jon has coached both football and wrestling and was selected by his peers as the 1997 Section 1AA Assistant Wrestling Coach of the Year. In addition to coaching, Jon has served in the roles of Assistant Director/Publicity Co-Chair for Team Minnesota Wrestling (1998 National Champions), Vice President of the Twin Rivers League (Minnesota Amateur Baseball Association), Assistant Tournament Manager for MSHSL Section 1 Wrestling Tournament, and as Guest Speaker for the Minnesota Middle School Association. Much of Jon's graduate research was focused on athletic participation and its relationship to aspects of student life. Jon and his wife, Kari, reside in Kasson and are the parents of a daughter (Karlyn) and son (Brooks).
Coach Paul McDonald is in his 17th year as the head coach of the Ironmen. He is also the athletic director and teaches in the Health and Physical Education Department at Vermillion. Paul has been named state, region and district coach of the year 4 times and 3 times has been a finalist for national coach of the year honors. McDonald hails from Chisholm, Minnesota, and is a part of Minnesota's basketball family. His father is the winningest coach in Minnesota basketball history with 830 wins and counting. All of Coach McDonald's brothers and sisters are in the basketball coaching profession. Coach McDonald played high school basketball for his father at Chisholm, MN, finishing with a four-year record of 98-8. He played on teams that won two state championships and one third place crown. After high school, he accepted a Division I scholarship to play for the University of Nebraska Cornhuskers. He lettered two seasons before transferring to South Dakota State University. At South Dakota State, McDonald led the Jacks to the Elite 8 in Division II and was named All-Conference and All-Region. He still holds the SDSU record for consecutive free throws made. Following his graduation, McDonald began his coaching career at Cotton, MN, and Tower-Soudan, MN, before taking over as the head man of the Ironmen in 1990.
Don Peschel is the head boys basketball coach in Sauk Centre, Minnesota. He has been coaching and teaching sixth grade there for the past 14 years. Don also was an assistant football coach for 13 years. He led the Mainstreeters to the State Tournament in 1998. Don was named Section 5AA coach of the year in 1998. Peschel played basketball for the legendary coach Dave Retzlaff at Fergus Falls Community College, before completing his education at Bemidji State University. His first coaching/teaching experience was a one year stint in Browerville, Minnesota before accepting a job in his home town of Sauk Centre where he currently resides. In 1999, Don completed his masters degree through the University of Minnesota in Curriculum. Currently he serves on the Minnesota Basketball Coaches Association and will be the president of this organization for the years 2005 and 2006. In the spring of the year, he enjoys umpiring high school baseball and softball games. His other interests include spending time with his wife and 3 daughters, hunting, fishing and watching a variety of sports.
Tom Saterdalen has been a teacher/coach for 38 years, the past 29 at Bloomington Jefferson High School. During his tenure as the head hockey and tennis coach, his teams have won nine state championships. He was selected Minnesota Coach of the Year five times and was chosen National Coaches Association Special Coach of the Year. He has developed over 70 Division 1 and 80 Division 2 & 3 athletes. Nineteen of his hockey players have gone on to the professional ranks and 7 to the NHL.
